The teenagers in Cardiff have been looking at their own culture. What does it mean to be Welsh? What other things define who they are other than their nationality? They've also drawn pictures and posters about their own culture to be exchanged with materials made at the Mingalar Children's Home (Burma) during the residency.
Some of the artwork created by Cardiff-based teenagers to represent their culture to the youth of Burma.
The teenagers spoke about the difference between their views on Wales and being Welsh, and the stereotypes percieved by non-Welsh people. They also remarked that Wales is very multicultural, particularly in Cardiff. Although Welsh traditions only play a small role in their lives today, all the teenagers were aware of those traditions.
They mentioned music, traditional Welsh dress, the Welsh language, various traditional Welsh crafts, and the Christian faith. They also mentioned Rugby, Welsh cakes, and Welsh pop stars, actors and TV shows.
In another session I filmed some of the teenagers describing the game of rugby and singing the Welsh National Anthem, so that I can take the footage to the Mingalar Childrens' Home. But I'm still not sure how I'm going to explain 'Gavin & Stacey' to a group of Burmese youth....
