Welcome to GlobalEyes

Could you chose GlobalEyes for your next fundraiser?

GlobalEyes is all about educating people in the developing world to enable them to improve their lives for the better, working through the arts and encouraging a sharing of cultures between children of different backgrounds.

The project will see me spending time with communities in developing nations, in places where people lack basic education, and often in places where local indigenous culture and arts are under threat. I will work with children in the community with the aim to educate through the use of the performing arts. The workshops will lead to a performance for the rest of the local community in an appropriate venue such as a school, community hall, or field.

During my time in a community, I will work with the children to create a piece of educational drama relating to a local issue, such as HIV awareness, the need for sending children to school, or the importance of vaccinations or good hygiene.I will also work with the children to discover more about their local culture and traditions in music and dance. These will also be incorporated into the performance event. Other aspects may also be incorporated into the performance event, depending on local customs and culture. Events could include a small carnival procession, circus performance or martial art display. The performance will be filmed and kept for archive use. There will also be an online journal of the event featuring photographs and film clips as well as comments from the children taking part. I will also work with a youth organisation UK. There will be the opportunity for children in this group to write a letter and send a picture to a child in a developing country. When on the projects, I will give these letters out and bring back letters and photos from these children to give to the UK children. In this way, I hope that the children involved in my fundraising will feel more included in the event, and that the idea will improve cultural awareness between children of very different backgrounds.
To educate children and their communities on an important issue, in order to allow them to make change for the better. To actively involve the children in educating their own community, and to work in a way which fits their lifestyle, rather than trying to preach or to westernise the community. To encourage creativity and discussion among the children, and to get the community thinking of ways they can help themselves. To instil a sense of confidence in the children and to give them a voiceTo educate in a way which is fun, where the children can learn about important issues without realising they are learning, through play, music, dance and drama. To get indigenous children to think about their own cultures and traditions, and to feel pride in and take ownership of their traditional music and dance forms. To record the end performance and document the workshops in order to educate the wider world on both the issues facing these communities, and the wonderful, vibrant culture which exists within the community. To promote the sharing of ideas and arts among people from different backgrounds who will never have the opportunity to meet. To allow minority and refugee communities in the developed world access to their own cultures by showing the films online, and to community groups in the UK.
